As a teenager in 2007, I started working in sawmills. It wasn't the most glamorous job, but it was good money that paid the bills. Over the next 16 years, I worked my way up through the ranks, learning everything I could about the industry. I started pushing a broom as a kid on clean up, to becoming the Safety Supervisor for an entire company. But despite the stability and steady income, something was missing. I had a passion for creating media, and I knew that I needed to pursue it.
I have been a photographer, working on the weekends for over a decade. Recently I started working with videography, and I even launched a very successful podcast with my wife. As my skills and interests grew, I began to dream of turning my hobbies into a full-time career.
So after years of contemplation and hesitation, on April 21 2023, I finally took a leap of faith and left the sawmill industry to start my own business.
Leaving a full-time job to start a business can be an risky proposition. There are financial risks involved, as you may not have a steady income for some time. Not to mention, there can be emotional and mental challenges as you adjust to a new way of life. It does take courage and determination to take the leap but it can also be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
Starting a new business is never easy, but I am grateful for the skills and knowledge I gained during my time in the sawmill industry. I learned the importance of hard work, attention to detail, and the value of teamwork. These skills have served me well, and I am excited I can apply them to my business and where I will go in the future.
I believe that media is a powerful tool for connecting people and telling stories. Whether it's through photography, video, or podcasting, I am passionate about creating content. My goal is to help businesses and individuals share their stories in a way that resonates with their audience. I hope my experience will help my business grow, but also that I can offer help to others who are looking to start their own business and I can be a part of the experience time and time again.
Congratulations Ben! Good on you and Nicole to never settle and always pursue your passions :) keep pushing yourselves, cant wait to see what Media Forge Studios produces
